DISTRICT # 5 OF THE WIAA

MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

February 4, 2008 – RED LION HOTEL, PASCO

President Jack McMillan, La Salle, opened the meeting at 10:03 AM.  All present except George Juarez, and Manuel Rangel.  No guests.

 

M/S/P (Gonzales/Pattitucci) approve minutes of January 7, 2009 meeting.

 

  1.  DISCUSSION/INFORMATION

 

    1. Officials were selected for wrestling and basketball. 
    2. Bill Daley gave an update on Eligibiliy cases.  The AD’s continue to do a good job sending in completed packets.  Next Eligibility date March 5, 2009.
    3. Lets honor those who serve the students of YVIAA.  Attached are forms for distinguished and meritorious service awards. 
    4. Discussion was held on the proposed amendments.  Attached are the latest copies of the amendments.
    5. We will keep the same format for the YVIAA spring meeting.  YVIAA to pick up the entire cost of the lunch.  Five clock hours will be available.  M/S/P Wilkins/Lewis

II. REPORTS

A. WIAA Executive Board Report - Rich over the action summary report.  Third reading on State Track Officials Tabled.  Football and Soccer bracketing committee will be formed.

B.   WSSAAA – Went over awards, state conference, survey for state basketball tournaments.  Dave will help Kent with YVIAA awards.

C.  WSSDA – They will meet Saturday.

D. WASA - Kevin said there was no report.  He did mention that AD’s should work with their superintendents during the current budget crunch.

E.   Officials – Will be a regional officials meeting March 26th in Sunnyside.

F.   WSCA – Mentioned the state coaches association supported a shot clock for boys.

G. Columbia Gorge 1B – Finalized district basketball.  Will be held in Zillah and Goldendale.  Went over selection of officials for district tournaments.  Reviewed combines for spring sports.  Discussed importance of following district eligibility standards. 

H. Mid Valley 2B – Discussed coaches being ejected.

I.    SCAC – Had quite  few self-reports of rules violations.  Schools put on probation. 

J.    CWAC – Meet Wednesday February 9 in Ellensburg.

K.    Big Nine 3A/4A – Meet Wednesday February 9 in Pasco.

 

1V.   ACTION ITEMS

A.     M/S/P (Wilkens/Daley) to approve the financial reports for November.

B.     M/S/P (Gant/Wilkens) to approve league actions for rules violations.

A. Next YVIAA Board Meeting, Monday, March 23, 2009 3:00 PM @ the Red Lion Hotel, Pasco.   YVIAA Spring Meeting March 24, 2009 9:00 AM.
