DISTRICT # 5 OF THE WIAA

MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

JANUARY 7, 2009 – RED LION HOTEL, PASCO

President Jack McMillan, La Salle, opened the meeting at 10:09 AM.  All present except George Juarez, George Pickard, and Manuel Rangel.  No guests.

 

M/S/P (Burns/Pattitucci) approve minutes of December 3, 2008 meeting.

 

  1.  DISCUSSION/INFORMATION

 

    1. Wrestling officials selection meeting Jan. 28th 9:00 AM Sunnyside HS, Basketball officials selection meeting Feb. 3rd 9:00 AM Lincoln Building  Room 20,1100 South 6th Street, Sunnyside, WA
    2. Bill Daley gave an update on Eligibiliy cases.  The committee has heard a total of 158 cases so far this year.  Nine have been denied.
    3. Kent will send the final report out after it is finalized.   Waiting for Hanford expenses for soccer game.  Finalize Yakima soccer officials.
    4. M/S/P (Gant/Daley) to deny payment of an official bill over 13 months old.
    5. Finalized league and district awards for winter sports.
    6. Set up rooming lists for Winter Coalition.
    7. Casey Gant helped Kent with the Committee Chairs.  Thanks, Casey.
    8. Wrestling tournament reports given out by Bill Daley.  The rest of the winter sports are being finalized and will be emailed out when they are made available.  Remember to look on YVIAA.org for the latest updates.

 

II. REPORTS

A. WIAA Executive Board Report - Rich over the action summary report.  Second reading on State Track Officials (has been modified).  Football and Soccer bracketing issues were discussed.  WIAA Member School Relations Committee results were discussed.

B.   WSSAAA – Selection of Le Burns as the District 5 AD of the year.  There is a scholarship for 1 new AD to the AD conference.  Contact Dave Cullen, East Valley.

C.  WSSDA - George was absent preparing for the Naches Ranger Wrestling Tournament.

D. WASA - Kevin said there was no report.  He did mention that AD’s should work with their superintendents during the current budget crunch.

E.   Officials – Dick said one school was balking at paying the late fee for the payment of their officials.

F.   WSCA – Mentioned the state coaches association supported the change back to the football bracket allowing teams from the same league to meet in the finals.  Tried to get state track personnel to come and explain their support for the certified track officials proposed by the state.  They were unable to attend.

G. Columbia Gorge 1B – They meet Monday January 12th. 

H. Mid Valley 2B – They meet Monday January 12th.

I.    SCAC – Meet Wednesday January 14th.

J.    CWAC – Met Tuesday December 9, went over tie breakers, district swim, wrestling adjustment and possible budget cuts.  Next meeting Wednesday January 14th.

 

K. Big Nine 3A/4A – No significant issues.

1V.   ACTION ITEMS

A.     M/S/P (Wilkens/Daley) to approve the financial reports for November.

B.     There will be a couple of reports coming in that have not been to the leagues yet.

C.     Kent will distribute the $30,000 for last years bonus reimursement.

A. Next YVIAA Board Meeting, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 @ the Red Lion Hotel, Pasco.  

B.   Winter Coalition January 26, 2009, Renton Convention Center.
